General Information
We at LXU believe the fundamental purpose of higher education is to develop

capacity for service to the universal community. To this end, LXU students do not specialise in narrow disciplines but are encouraged to combine analytical thinking with a dynamically integrative ecological perspective, resulting in comprehensive holistic insights. The role of the LXU mentor is to encourage and elicit this holistic learning, using the Study Contract method of course delivery (please read the Prospectus and Student Handbook for details).

We recognise that most applicants will be used to the conventional American or British university model and of graduate degrees by instruction or research, as per the outgoing reductionist and materialistic paradigm. Our model is a different one. It resonates to the emerging holistic paradigm, and the persons we seek should share our attitude, and possess the same competence we wish to see developed in our students. Our faculty is a family of illuminative thinkers in their respective fields, whose task it is to assist in the recognition and development of our students' own highest potentialities.

We particularly look for:
* Openness to new approaches and ideas, and ability for holistic and lateral thinking.
* Commitment to student-designed learning.
* Willingness to gently, yet effectively guide students´ personal and professional development, without imposing the mentor´s own personal criteria or values.
* Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.

Qualifications required:

Earned Master´s degree (to mentor at Master´s level).
Earned Doctorate (to mentor at Doctorate level).
Competence in the use of email, the internet and word processing.

Formal teaching experience is preferred but of more importance are the personal qualities of the applicant, a record of professional achievement, and dedication to the task.

We welcome mentors for all our programmes (see Prospectus).

Additionally, we would be interested to hear from persons who feel they could create and mentor additional new paradigm programmes.

Conditions and Pay

All appointments are self-employed and non-salaried. Mentors should be prepared to be pro-active in creating standard course titles (if applicable) and in student recruitment.

Mentors are paid quarterly on the basis of the number of students assigned to them. The average weekly time investment expected is 2 hours per student.
